Touro University Worldwide offers an online Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences (BSHS) degree that prepares graduates for leading roles in the health field. Students in the BSHS degree program can choose from three concentrations: Healthcare Administration, Health Education, and Long-term Care Administration.

Graduates from the online BSHS degree program apply theory and evidence-based strategies in addressing real-world problems. Classes are taught by experienced leaders providing an applied perspective to addressing today’s health disparities.

Healthcare Administration Concentration

All medical operations need qualified leaders to develop and manage business plans. Administrators set goals and objectives, managing complex operations in a heavily regulated environment. The overall goal is to improve efficiency while also improving the quality of care.

TUW designed the BS in Health Sciences – Bachelor in Healthcare Administration program for working adults who want to learn the skills needed in the current job market. Student outcomes include applying management concepts and theory to decision making and applying legal and ethical practices to healthcare administration.

Demand for healthcare administrators remains high. The U.S. Department of Labor Statistics (BLS) projects an 18 percent increase in the number of medical and health service managers between 2018 and 2028.

Jobs in the field include leadership positions at hospitals, ambulatory care facilities, physician group practices, social service agencies, long term care facilities, rehabilitation centers, mental health centers, and public health departments.

Health Education Concentration

The BS in Health Sciences – Bachelor of Health Education from TUW prepares graduates for careers with a focus on understanding health behaviors across populations and working to promote improvement in health and wellness. It’s an important job in a world where advocates for social change that lead to higher levels of wellness are needed.

This BSHS degree track program synthesizes knowledge from physical, biological, social and behavioral fields to address health problems in our communities. The program provides graduates with a theoretical and philosophical foundation in the principles of health promotion and community health education. Graduates learn successful methods for promoting health and facilitating voluntary changes in health behaviors.

They also leave the program able to make informed judgments and decisions as an advocate for health in a culturally diverse society.

Jobs in health education include patient educator, health education teacher, trainer, community organizer, and health program manager. The BLS projects 11 percent growth in health educator jobs between 2018 and 2028.

Long-Term Care Administration Concentration

Long-term care administrators manage staff, finances, and programs at facilities such as assisted living facilities and retirement homes. The need for qualified long-term care administrators continues to grow. By 2030, one in every five Americans will be 65 or older.  By 2034, those 65 or older will outnumber those 18 and under.

The BS in Health Sciences – Bachelor in Long-Term Care Administration prepares graduates for leadership roles. The program provides courses in general management, health care administration and long-term care administration. It also provides specialization in two prominent segments of long-term care – nursing home administration and assisted-living administration.
