Touro University Worldwide Receives COAMFTE Accreditation for MA in Marriage and Family Therapy Program

The designation by the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education recognizes the high quality of the program and provides benefits to students.

Touro University Worldwide, a pioneer in delivering high-quality online education to students around the world, has received specialty accreditation for the university’s Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy program. The accreditation both signifies the high quality of the TUW program and offers benefits for students and graduates.

The specialty accreditation comes from the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education (COAMFTE).  Accreditation from COAMFTE is the gold standard for Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) degree programs.

Speaking on what COAMFTE accreditation means, MFT Program Director Dr. Darren D. Moore said, “We’re excited to be able to align our MFT program with the COAMFTE. This is an accomplishment we believe will translate to our students being better prepared to solve complex problems for diverse individuals, couples and families worldwide.”

The COAMFTE accreditation means TUW’s program meets or exceeds the established standards and criteria for MFT programs. It also indicates TUW faculty are active participants in contributing to the body of knowledge in the MFT field.

Students who attend a COAMFTE-accredited MFT program know they are receiving a quality education from a respected school that meets rigorous academic standards. They also know the program will prepare them for licensure as a marriage and family therapist and prepare them for state and national exams. Accreditation also facilitates attainment of a state license by allowing graduates to present a recognized qualifying degree.

The TUW online MFT degree program offers master’s degree students the convenience and flexibility of an online program. The program focuses on producing graduates with expertise in the changing state of families and how they relate to an evolving 21st-century society.

Graduates from the program focus on forming holistic patient treatment plans that consider family dynamics. Students seeking licensure in the MFT program can follow one of two tracks which are COAMFTE accredited: Clinical and Licensed Professional Clinical Counseling (LPCC).
