The alumni committee spotlights an outstanding alumnus whose journey exemplifies the values, excellence, and real-world impact of the various program and educational studies at TUW. Dr. Shelia Lewis, Provost
Provost, Touro University Worldwide
Touro University Alumnus
In this inaugural publication to recognize TUW Alumni, we begin with our own, Dr. Shelia Lewis. Dr. Lewis is the Provost of Touro University Worldwide. Her educational journey and achieving the position of the Provost is partially due to her effort to simply “keep pushing forward.” She is a military veteran and served in the California National Guard in 1979, transitioned to the Army in 1982 and retired from the Army in 2002. In the field of Signal Communications, she served in numerous positions exemplifying leadership throughout her career including Drill Sergeant and First Sergeant. Like many military service members and veterans, she used the Montgomery GI Bill® to earn Bachelors through Doctoral degrees and received both the MBA and PhD through Touro University International (TUI), in 2003 and 2006, respectively. While she pursued her educational journey, Dr. Lewis also served at Central Texas College as an Instructor and key advisor of Computer and Information Literacy Courses as well as created numerous courses in the Noncommissioned Officer (NCO) Leadership Development Program known as NCO LEAD.
After completing both degrees at TUI, in 2007 Dr. Lewis had an opportunity to gain the impeccable higher education experience to serve under the direct tutelage of her former Chair, the late Dr. Yoram Neumann and the personable grooming of the late Dr. Edith Neumann, Dr. Lewis served in multiple positions across two online Touro Institutions (TUI and TUW). Her positions included but were not limited to Director of the Office of Institutional Research, Assistant Professor in the College of Business Administration, Coordinator of the TUI Alumni Association Ambassadors, Director of Business Programs, Director of the School of Business, Associate Provost of Quality Assurance and Provost.
Whether in the military, higher education and/or a leader within a family unit, Dr. Lewis believes that quality leaders are those who “push forward” in the midst of circumstances and not just when times are good. She attributes her success to her upbringing hinged on faith encouraged by her parents, and other leaders who believed in mentoring by succession such as the late Drs. Neumann, the legends who established Touro Online Programs with over 15,000 Alumni whom Dr. Lewis is a proud member.
There is no doubt that Dr. Lewis is a product of the organization in which she serves and continues to encourage her colleagues, students and all in her sphere of influence that they too can be successful in higher education regardless of their role and or position. TUW is honored to have Dr. Lewis as its proud alumnus and looks forward to her continued outpouring into the success of TUW as she continues to “push forward.”

Coralanne Griffith-Hunte
Doctor of Psychology in Human & Organizational Psychology
Human Rights Activist
Dr. Coralanne Griffith-Hunte possesses what she calls a “willful pursuit to persevere.” In 2014, she was so debilitated from years of back surgeries and breast cancer treatment, that she had zero energy. A wife and mother of four, with several degrees and professional achievements, Dr. Coralanne, as she’s called, then 41, could have rested quietly and recuperated. “No way,” she says. “I decided to get a doctorate to make my brain work again, get it going!”
In 2018, the Barbados native was awarded a doctorate in psychology from Touro University Worldwide. Dr. Coralanne, now 49 and living on Long Island, chose the school because, “They said, ‘Tell me about you,’” she says. “I talked, they listened, they talked, I listened, we collaborated, just the way communication should work. The professors brought things out of me I didn’t even know were in there.”
Among her successes, Dr. Coralanne has received the New York State Senate 2019 Woman of Distinction Award and the 2019 Humanitarian Award; in 2020, she joined the United Nations 58th Commission for Social Development to end homelessness and assisted in developing the UN’s Resolution on Homelessness. In 2021, she spoke in Switzerland at the Geneva Centre for Human Rights Advancement and Global Dialogue, and was featured in Forbes magazine in May 2021 for her expertise on the effects of mass incarceration and post-traumatic prison disorder.
She doesn’t just dish out advice, she takes it: “It’s okay not to be okay,” she says. But with a caveat: “Don’t wallow. Get up, get going!”
